Restoring Digital Learning Infrastructure for Practical ICT Education

Qavaa Innovate successfully completed the renovation and revitalization of the Computer Laboratory at Margaret Ekpo Secondary School / Women Education Vocational Centre, Calabar. The initiative was designed to restore access to practical ICT education by upgrading the school’s technology infrastructure and creating a conducive learning environment for students.
Beyond renovating the facility, the project extended into digital education by engaging a dedicated technology tutor who delivered hands-on training, ensuring students could immediately benefit from the newly restored laboratory. The project reflects Qavaa Innovate’s commitment to empowering young people with the digital skills needed to thrive in today’s technology-driven world.

The Need
The school’s computer laboratory had become difficult to use due to damaged equipment, inadequate furniture, and electrical infrastructure challenges. As a result, students had limited opportunities to participate in practical computer classes and develop essential digital skills.
Recognizing the importance of technology education, Qavaa Innovate partnered with the school to restore the laboratory and transform it into a functional digital learning space.
What We Delivered
The project included significant improvements to both the laboratory infrastructure and learning environment, including:
- Complete renovation of the computer laboratory
- Repair and restoration of computer equipment
- Installation of new laptop adapters and accessories
- Inverter repair and solar power system maintenance
- Construction of laboratory tables and stools
- Laboratory repainting and refurbishment
- Installation of whiteboard and learning furniture
- Provision of extension sockets and electrical accessories

Digital Skills Training
Following the successful renovation, Qavaa Innovate recruited a technology tutor to provide students with practical digital skills training using the newly renovated laboratory.
Students participated in introductory sessions covering:

- Python Programming
- Internet Safety and Responsible Digital Citizenship
- Productivity Tools
- Practical Computer Operations
- Introduction to Emerging Digital Technologies
