Finance & Accounting Assistant Intern — Remote

Role Overview

The Finance & Accounting Assistant Intern will support bookkeeping, expense tracking, budget monitoring, reconciliations, reporting, and financial documentation.

The ideal candidate is organized, accurate, trustworthy, and comfortable working with numbers and spreadsheets.

This position is fully remote.

Key Responsibilities

Finance and Accounting

  • Record income, expenses, payments, reimbursements, and other financial transactions.
  • Review invoices, receipts, payment requests, and supporting documents.
  • Maintain accurate cashbooks, budget trackers, expense reports, and financial records.

Budgeting and Reconciliation

  • Monitor expenses against approved budgets and highlight significant variances.
  • Support bank, cash, mobile-money, and payment-platform reconciliations.
  • Track pending payments, invoices, advances, and reimbursements.

Reporting and Compliance

  • Prepare basic financial summaries and periodic reports.
  • Organize documents for audits, grants, procurement, and compliance reviews.
  • Work with program and operations teams to collect required financial information.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently studying or recently graduated in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of bookkeeping, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
  • Strong attention to detail, integrity, organization, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Professional proficiency in English or French.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous internship, academic, volunteer, or professional experience in finance, accounting, audit, or administration.
  • Familiarity with QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, Zoho Books, Wave, or similar tools.
  • Knowledge of bank reconciliation, double-entry bookkeeping, or nonprofit finance.
  • Ability to communicate in both English and French.
